The Department of Psychology at the University of Massachusetts Boston invites applications for a visiting assistant professor position starting September 1, 2020. The position is for academic year 2020-21 only. Areas of interest are open but those with teaching and research specializations in social psychology are especially encouraged to apply. The successful applicant will teach a 3-3 course load and participate in departmental service and undergraduate student advising. Taught courses will likely include Research Methods, Social Psychology, and Personality. The appointment requires ABD status or a PhD in psychology or a closely related discipline. UMass Boston is a primarily non-residential campus, a majority ethnic and racial minority institution, and has a large proportion of first-generation college students. Indeed, the university boasts one of the most diverse student bodies in the U.S. With a Carnegie classification of “Doctoral University/Higher Research Activity,” UMass Boston offers faculty the opportunity to teach and conduct research in a vibrant and diverse urban setting. The Department of Psychology is the largest department in the College of Liberal Arts, with approximately 1,100 undergraduate majors. Undergraduate students can also earn a minor in psychology. The department also houses two doctoral programs—a PhD in Clinical Psychology and a PhD in Developmental and Brain Sciences.
